At Kumeroa School, we do more than educate. We nurture our ākonga to build for a successful and connected future.
Our rural setting fosters the spirit of curiosity and adventure, in partnership with those around us.
We empower our tamariki to connect, discover, and learn.
"Connect" refers to the Kumeroa School's commitment to fostering strong connections and relationships among its ākonga (students), their parents and the broader community. This involves not only connecting with learning but also with the community, fostering a sense of curiosity, adventure, and partnership. Kumeroa is dedicated to preparing its students for a future where success is not only defined by individual achievements but also by the ability to collaborate, engage with others, and contribute positively to their community.
“Discover” refers to our localised curriculum that takes into consideration the unique characteristics, values, and opportunities available in our rural Kumeroa context. It recognises the agricultural aspects of our rural location and promotes the important part the environment plays in creating a productive and sustainable economy via our Agri and Papatūānuku aspect of our localised curriculum.
Strong Connections that give learners the chance to Discover, leads to effective Learning. An explicit curriculum will ensure literacy and numeracy are the foundation for learning. Our localised curriculum meets the needs of our learners with teaching based on current research and pedagogy, ensuring purposeful learning.
Kumeroa School is a space where we focus on helping each student be their very best. We meet students where they are and find the ways to unlock their learning. Agri curriculum and Papatūānuku provide amazing opportunities for us to help each student flourish and realise their potential.
We believe that every student deserves to learn in a space where they can truly be “them”. Where they don’t need to change themselves to fit the school box- but where the school changes to draw out the best in them.
We focus on removing barriers and help our students to see themselves as powerful students who ‘own’ their learning.
We ensure that all students achieve to their maximum potential, celebrating their culture, identity and interests. Students are guided and supported by quality teaching, informed parents and whānau in a safe learning environment.
This is our Bush classroom where students learn to explore, take risks, learn science, maths and literacy in the outdoors. A space where being you is more than enough- in fact it is the very best thing you could be!
We spend a day a week in Papatūānuku for 6 weeks in term one, two and Four.
Our curriculum has a strong focus on Agriculture and Horticulture. Students run, lead and manage projects that connect this learning with real life contexts. This has included rearing animals (calves, sheep and pigs), managing bees, learning trapping, building projects and plant to pizza.
