Kia ora, I’m Lucy Stone, and I am both honoured and humbled to serve as the Principal of Kumeroa School, a role I have held since Term 3, 2024. I began my journey here as a parent, then Board of Trustees Chairperson, before teaching in the junior classroom. I feel incredibly fortunate to now lead this beautiful school, surrounded by the land and community that I call home. My family is a farming family (originally from Devon, UK) and we are deeply connected the the land.
As Kumeroa School continues on the path forward, I am focused on creating consistency and providing high-quality teaching and learning for every child. The future is bright, and together we are building a nurturing and stable environment for our tamariki.
A highlight of my years at Kumeroa, has been bringing our Forest School Program to life- 'Papatuanuku'. As someone who is Forest School trained, it is incredibly fulfilling to watch our students explore and learn in the native bush just ten minutes from the school. Nature has a special way of shaping our experiences, and this program reflects my deep belief in the power of outdoor learning. The development this program is taking is incredibly exciting, where our sessions on a Monday are aligning to the curriculum and learning is developed throughout the week back in the classroom.
I am a rural girl born and bred, and adventure runs through my veins—something I’m happy to share with the children of Kumeroa, who connect with this spirit of exploration and discovery. Above all, I am here for the children. Every day, they can rely on Miss Lucy to be a place of comfort and care, where they are valued and supported to grow into their full potential.
It’s a privilege to work alongside such a wonderful community, and I am excited for what lies ahead as we continue to create a school where every child thrives.
